Battle with the Scales

ScalesThe Battle with the Scales

How many of you out there stepped on your scales this morning and weighed yourself? Were you happy with the number you saw? Or Were you expecting something else? Now by seeing that number on the scales, has that put you in a good or bad mood for the day?

Sometimes a lot of us can get so caught up in what we believe our ‘ideal’ weight is, that we forget the scale doesn’t tell us the whole story about our bodies and we just end up on a big emotional roller coaster.

That number on the scales can fluctuate over a 24-48hour period based on how much water you’ve drank that day, what food you have eaten, what clothes your wearing and even what time of day it is. Not only that but the scales can’t tell you how much of that weight is fat and how much is muscle.

So yes sometimes the scales can help in setting goals if you have some weight too loose, and they can keep you accountable and on track for that goal. But if you are weighing yourself day after day and sometimes your a kilo heavier then yesterday, don’t beat yourself up over it. I suggest leaving it for a fortnight or even a month before you check in again with the scales. Don’t let it be the one way you track your fitness and overall health.

I can honestly say I weigh the same now as I did a week after giving birth 18months ago… but I am certainly a lot leaner, healthier and stronger.
